We use the Montessori curriculum plus nature studies!
Montessori education is an approach to learning that was developed by Dr.
Maria Montessori in the early 1900s. It is based on the idea that children
learn best when they are in an environment that is prepared specifically for
them, with materials that are designed to promote their natural curiosity and
desire to learn.
In a Montessori classroom, children are encouraged to explore and learn at
their own pace, with guidance from a trained teacher. The materials are
designed to be self-correcting, so children can learn from their own mistakes
and gain confidence in their abilities.
Montessori education is focused on the whole child, including their
intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. Children are
encouraged to develop independence and self-discipline, as well as respect for
themselves and others.
One of the key principles of Montessori education is that children learn
through their senses and through movement. Therefore, the classrooms are
designed to be hands-on, with materials that the children can manipulate and
explore. The Montessori approach also emphasizes the importance of nature and
the outdoors, with many classrooms incorporating gardens, outdoor play areas,
and nature walks.
Overall, Montessori education is a child-centered approach to learning that
encourages children to develop their natural curiosity, creativity, and love of
learning.
